WGN now has a blog! With announcers Len Kasper and Bob Brenly this needs to be on your “to read” list. But this isn’t your traditional corporate blog. It has permalinks and *gasp* RSS! Subscribed! Via Cubs.Net.Now Playing: Driver Eight - Brown Paper Bag
Ryne Sandberg is now writing a column for Yahoo sports. Definitely worth a read but the page needs an RSS feed. You hear me Yahoo? RSS! Via Cubs.Net
Last night, we had our first basketball game of the inaugural season of the Perrine Baptist Basketball League. I was worried that I wouldn’t have a full team since of the seven guys on the roster I couldn’t get a hold of three of them and a fourth didn’t have a car. But I was lucky enough to pick up a fourth man (who ended up being the best player on the squad) and I was able to secure my UM buddy, Ryan, for a fifth. Anyways, my knee is still incredibly tender and I shouldn’t have been on the...
Oh boy, my favorite photo site, Flickr was just bought by Yahoo. From what I understand Flickr will be improved and not become Yahoo photos. They also want to preserve the “Flickrness” of the site. I hope they’re successful in doing this. I’m happy that Flickr will get better but concerned that a cool site will become mundane. Now Playing: T-Bone - Redeemed Hoodlum
A friend of mine at work gave me a link to the Spam All-Stars. They’ve got this groovy latin funk sound going on. Check it out and let me know what you think (this means you Jed).

From The Wall Street Journal: The PlayStation Goes Portable “Our verdict: The PSP is an impressive hand-held game player with great graphics, good game controls and strong multiplayer capabilities. But its added multimedia capabilities, while potentially strong, are hobbled by design and cost issues, at least at launch. The PSP isn't likely to replace the iPod or the portable DVD player anytime soon.” I suspected as much. It would be just like Sony to release functionally that would blow the doors off the competition and implements it a half-baked fashion. How many more people would buy the PSP if...
I just found an instant messenger for my Windows SmartPhone called IM+. IM+ supports AOL, Yahoo, ICQ, and MSN. I must say that having all of my IM contacts on my phone is quite handy. Now if I can only get used to typing on a twelve key keypad.

Beware the ides of March.
One issue that I’ve always had with Windows XP Pro is that you can’t configure multiple root websites. So I decided to take a peek on the web for solutions. The first solution that I found was an ISAPI filter called multisite. It’s a nice solution that redirects a domain to the proper webroot. This wouldn’t work for me since I needed two websites at the root. The second solution that I found used the IIS admin scripts to copy a website to a new one creating two roots. I found a workaround at http://www.bobshowto.com/iis_servers.htm that allowed me to...
The 3.0 version of DotNetNuke portal software has been released. I’ve already downloaded and installed the bits and it is impressive. DotNetNuke 3.0 includes a significant number of breakthrough enhancements which improve its versatility, power, and accessibility. These include a more intuitive user interface, support for “drag-and-drop” content management, improved URL structuring for search engine indexing, and enhanced provisioning support for scriptable configuration. In addition, the application underwent an extensive code access security review so that it is capable of running in a Medium Trust hosting environment. Also available for download are official blog, forum and gallery modules. I’m...

Nintendo has released a new trailer of the new Zelda game. This will be probably the last high profile game released on the GameCube. Talk about ending on a high note, this game looks awesome. The Wind Waker was the reason I picked up a GameCube and after watching this I’m glad I did. I’m speechless. I’m going to go watch the trailer again and then I’m going to pick up The Minish Cap.
Also check out GameSpot's frame by frame breakdown of the trailer.
Last night, a new Star Wars Episode III trailer premiered after the O.C. Of course I didn’t watch it since I was watching the Hurricanes blow another big lead. And of course the fans posted it on the internet as soon as it was shown. Check out this post on TwitchFilm.net to find out how you can download the trailer (I found it here). I thought the trailer was impressive, most impressive. It looks like this will be the best prequel of them all. Some of the good things I saw: Palpatine revealing himself, Padme crying, the council against Anakin,...
To quote the masterpiece of modern filmmaking, The Fly II “I’m getting…BETTER!” For the past three weeks I’ve been seeing a physical therapist for my knee. It turns out that I had a partial tear in one of my ligaments. The physical therapist I’m seeing is Bruce Wilk at Orthopedic Rehabilitation Specialists. (No website, no link that’s the rule around here! But I did find a site, DefectiveShoe.com, which Bruce has put up.) During the first visit he took a look at my shoes and immediately told me I was using the wrong shoe. What I needed was a...
I ran across this the other day. It’s a quiz to find out which of the Desperate Housewives you are most like. Of course they change it up for the guys and say which housewife they are most likely to date/marry. This is ridiculous of course because if I dated/married someone like me I’d have some suicidal tendencies coming to the forefront. Nevertheless I took the test undaunted and discovered the horrors of horrors.
Eeek! Not Lynette! Too many kids, too bossy and too blond. Sure she’s got a great personality but she’s not exactly going to light up the night,...

I really need one of these a flaming bible. The good book has never been so hot! It’s a hollowed out book with a battery operated ignition system. Now if I can only get those red contacts I can do some condemning in a big bad way. Via Engadget.

How is it that Rich Mullins can put lyrics into a song that so poignantly explains my feelings? The world has been a darker place since you left Rich. We’ll see you when I get home. Growing Young I've gone so far from my home I've seen the world and I have known So many secrets I wish now I did not know 'Cause they have crept into my heart They have left it cold and dark And bleeding Bleeding and falling apart And everybody used to tell me big boys don't cry Well I've been around enough to...
In a recent post Joystiq posted the comments of Kamalot who makes some good observations on the PSP’s battery life. I will be making up my mind on March 24 when I pickup the system and promptly board a plane for Cubs spring training in Mesa, AZ. The PSP’s battery is a topic of huge debate. Depending on use, a single charge can last anywhere between 6 hours all the way down to 1.5, depending on which features the handheld utilizes. Why is this? I seriously ask, should you as a consumer and gamer, have to juggle volume and...
Here’s a pretty good article on the differences between TiVo, Microsoft Media Center and a cable DVR. It sounds like this guy likes the MS media center a log. Wouldn’t it be great if someone came out with a DirecTV PC card? Via Engadget.
Remember Apple’s 1984 commercial from the Super Bowl? It has been parodied and its pretty clever. Via Scoble.

Check out this headline: Psycho Teacher Pulls Chair Out from Student Who Wouldn’t Stand for Anthem. The crazy thing about this is that another student caught this on tape. And that student who filmed this was suspended for ten days! It’s utterly ridiculous. This teacher was probably one morning away from a complete and total nervous breakdown. I really think that there was more to this story but that doesn’t justify what the teacher did. He should be the one suspended and sent to anger management counseling (a.k.a. “hell on earth”). Also check out Dvorak’s blog, he’s got a good...
Ron Santo fell eight votes short this year to miss election by the veterans’ committee into the Baseball Hall of Fame. I’m really disappointed by this since it would have been great to see Sandberg and Santo get elected in the same year. ESPN.com has just posted an excellent tribute to Santo. Also check out the documentary on Ron Santo titled This Old Cub on sale now.

Sony’s new handheld device, the PSP, will be arriving on shelves in three weeks. But you better be prepared to wait in long lines at retailers that aren’t taking preorders like Worst Buy. EB and GameStop have stopped taking preorders on the hot new device. This essentially means that if you aren’t on the list you’re out of luck. So to get your juices flowing here is a video review of the PSP. It’s going to rock!
Lucy and I have been feeling a bit nostalgic over the past few days. It got so bad last night that we went to Dairy Queen (which ironically is next to a weight loss center) for dinner. Why? Dunno. Right now we’re just missing our old days at the U. So with that I give you Sixpence None the Richer’s A Million Parachutes since the chorus always reminds me of my days at Miami. Like a million parachutes The snow's coming down I'll lock up the front door And turn the lights down In the glow of the street...
