Technology in the wrong hands can be a bad thing

So I drive into the parking garage in the office and I drive by a car with it's lights on. Although we've never been formally introduced I've seen this car before;it's the new car that one of our project managers just bought. Nice car an Infiniti FX. So I pull into a spot walk into the office and ask the PM did you leave your lights on? She didn't think so and they were supposed to turn off after thirty seconds. Since we weren't formally introduced (the car and I) we walked down to the garage and checked it out....

Wycliffe eat your heart out

I know this is a bit sacrilegious but I couldn't help posting this. There have been lolcats in pictures and lolcats in code. Now, they have their own translation of the bible. Of course I use the word translation loosely. It seems that a group of people have collaborated over the internet to translate the Bible into lolcat. Since the project inception sometime last year they are now 60% completed. In case you have no idea what I'm talking about here is one of my favorite verses 1 Corinthians 13 in lolcat. 1 iff i talkd wif teh tungz of manz...

Getting back up and running

As I get Jorriss.com back to a working state by adding the del.icio.us links, book links, Google ads, etc. I looked into getting a better post editor than the one built into Community Server. After not much searching I found this article entitled "How can I publish to my blog offline?" It discusses the MetaWeblog API that Community Server uses and links to a tool called Windows Live Writer. Windows Live Writer is a Microsoft application that is specifically designed to allow bloggers to construct, modify and publish blog posts. One of the things that I like about it is...

Didn't think it would happen did ya?

I'm back. It's been a long time since my last post. Since then Alexa is 1.5 times older, I've been promoted at work, I've gotten more involved at church and I'm busier than ever. I did have a good logical reason why I stopped blogging but I'm going to save that for later. I've also been able to move the blog from .Text to Community Server thanks to Kevin Harder and his migration tool. I was able to move web hosts as well. I'm still going to keep the personal stuff on Jorriss.com and the technical stuff at Jorriss.net. The design of...

Top Ten Comic Villains Revisited

Last week I posted my top ten comic villains of all time. As it turns out J and I were in B&N this week and guess what was on the cover of Wizard? The 100 Greatest Villains Ever. Wizard included TV, movies, books, comics and practically all of pop culture in their list. But I thought it would be a good idea to see how my list compares to theirs. 10. Identity Crisis Villain – Wizard Ranking: Not Ranked. I’m not surprised that this one wasn’t ranked. Maybe there hasn’t been enough time for this one to sink into the...

My Top Ten Comic Villains

J and I were talking last night and since Superman Returns just opened we got on the topic of best comic villains of all time. Without any further ado here is my top ten comic villains. 10. Identity Crisis Villain – Since this book is only a few years old and there are so many who have not read it (shame on you) I won’t give away the culprit. Let’s just say this whodunit has a antagonist you won’t suspect.9. Onslaught – Some think that Onslaught was lame they may be right. But to almost destroy the entire Marvel universe...

Cat vs Celing Fan

I have no idea what it is but it seems like there have been a ton more videos being posted on the blogs that I frequent. The latest vid is from John Dvorak's blog and features a cat and a ceiling fan. I later found out that this clip is taken from a Nokia commercial and it apears that the cat is ok. But I'm assuming it now only has eight lives left.

Which X-Men are you?

I'm not a big fan of all of these net quizzes. Most are poorly written and predictable. But this one, the X-Men Personality Quiz, is well written and the variety of X characters could lead to some interesting results. What if you were like Longshot, Marrow or even Northstar? Geesh. Luckily, I'm most like my favorite X-Man Scott Summers. Any surprise here? Via J's del.icio.us site. You scored as Cyclops. Codename: Cyclops Full Name: Scott Summers Mutant Powers: Optic blasts of intense light-beams. Scott Summers was an early follower of Xavier's dream and a mutant that suffered all his life.As a young boy,...

Victoria's Secret top model a virgin??

Victoria's Secret “it” model, Adriana Lima (we affectionately call her Wild Eye Child) was recently interviewed by GQ magazine. In this interview she reveals that she’s not only a Christian, more specifically Catholic, but she’s a virgin who is waiting for marriage to have sex. Think about that for a second. Here’s a woman who had amassed a fortune modeling lingerie (“the ninety-seventh highest-paid famous person in the world according to Forbes”), essentially selling sex, saying she’s going to wait until marriage to have sex. Of course that’s a huge dichotomy. I’m not quite sure how I’d rationalize the two...

Cubs Spring Training 2006: Cubs Sox tie; Mass kissing of sisters ensue; Sox still suck

Monday started with breakfast again at Mimi’s. Like I said, it’s the best AM restaurant in Mesa. We headed over to the park with football in hand ready to kill an hour or two before the game started. Of course this was the game we changed our plans for. We usually are in Mesa for Thursday – Sunday stay but since the Cubs were playing the world champion White Sox (damn, that’s really hard to write) we decided to stay Saturday – Tuesday. As we parked the car we noticed something was different. There was a ton of Sox fans....

Cubs Spring Training 2006: D-Backs blank Cubs 6-0

Our second day in Mesa started early, well at least for me. I’m still on Alexa Marie time so I woke up at 5:30 AM and decided to go for a run. It was about fifty degrees outside and Mesa isn’t exactly the most interesting place to run. Everything here is dusty and brown; welcome to the desert. Luckily for me the hotel has an exercise room with a treadmill, a nice one at that. Sixty-five minutes and six miles later I returned to the room ready for a nice big breakfast. Our breakfast was supplied by Mimi’s Café the...

Cubs Spring Training 2006: Cubs throw no hitter through nine; win 1-0 in ten

We landed in Phoenix on Saturday at 12:30 PM. This was perfect since we had tickets to see the Cubs split squad at Ho Ho Kam Park at 1:00 PM. But for some reason Hertz (linked with nofollow, no Google juice for you) didn't want to get us there on time. Over two months ago my Dad placed reservations for a yellow Mustang convertible to be ready for us. Of course it wasn't. We settled for a red Mustang and they assured us it would be ready in ten minutes. Forty minutes later we were in a half-washed red Mustang convertible with...

Is this next year?

Tomorrow, my Dad and I are off to Phoenix once again to catch our beloved Cubs in three spring training exhibitions. Of course I’m looking forward to seeing the team in Ho-Ho-Kam Park but I’m really looking forward to wind down and get some sleep. It seems that sleep has been in a short supply recently with the baby and all. She’s doing much better, she’s asleep by 6:30PM and only waking up once during the night. And I’m still training. Today, I got up at 4:15 AM to get in an eight mile run. And yes I’m crazy. Nonetheless,...

Welcome to the Blogsphere!

My darling wife has decided to work on her scrapbooking business full time. She has been a consultant with Creative Memories for over three years now so she knows the ins and outs of the Creative Memories products and services. To help her with her business I suggested that she start a scrapbooking blog where she can describe her products and ideas. So I installed Community Server 2.0 on a server at Server Intellect but ran into a few problems. The server was throwing an error which I couldn’t see so I opened a support ticket to get the...
